Celebrating Success: The Ninth Annual El Sistema Residency
The Ninth Annual El Sistema Residency was an unequivocal success, and we extend our sincerest gratitude to all the programs whose participation made it possible. From the Baltimore Symphony OrchKids, Johns Hopkins Tuned-In of Peabody Conservatory, Boston Music Project, ROC Music Collaborative, Paterson Music Project, students from the King School, and of course, Project Music, each contributor played an integral role in shaping the unforgettable experience of this year's residency. We are immensely thankful to all involved for their dedication, talent, and enthusiasm, which collectively brought the vision of the El Sistema Residency to life in such a remarkable way. Moreover, we were honored to have the participation of Kaila Mullady, World Beatbox Champion, and the composer Giovanni Santos, whose contributions enriched the residency with their exceptional talents and expertise.
The final concert was a resounding success, with students performing a piece they collectively composed over the weekend through the Collective Composition process, featuring over 150 musicians on stage.
Garrett Mendez, Artistic Director of Project Music, expressed his awe, stating, "I was absolutely blown away by the residency this year. The energy and focus of the students was fantastic, and the collective composition was the best one we have ever done. Thank you to all of the visiting programs, staff, and our Project Music parents that made the event such a success, and a huge thank you to King for supporting the vision of the program."
This original composition, crafted in just two days, showcased the students' extraordinary creativity and dedication, lasting over 15 minutes and captivating the audience with its brilliance.Titled “Colors of an Artist” the piece reflected the vibrant diversity of musical styles and influences brought together by the collaborative efforts of the talented young musicians.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made this event possible, and we eagerly look forward to seeing you all again next year!
