Project Music's Program Director attains Doctoral Degree: Meet Dr. Falcón

We are delighted to announce a significant milestone within our Project Music family. Our respected program director, Pedro Falcón, has recently achieved an important accomplishment by securing approval for his doctoral thesis in Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina. His thesis, entitled "A New Approach to Oboe Gouging Machines Using Router Tips and Traction Wheels," marks a pioneering contribution to the music field.

Pedro's journey features notable achievements, such as his role as the principal oboist for the Falcón Symphony Orchestra at the mere age of 22. His commitment to music education is particularly evident from his time at the Santa Ana Conservatory of Music, where he worked closely with El Sistema, demonstrating his inspiring dedication. Noteworthy is Pedro's effort to teach music in unconventional settings, like correctional facilities, showcasing the transformative impact of music in the most challenging circumstances.

Furthermore, Pedro's contributions to music are not limited to education but include his innovative designs, like the glove he developed for Alex Klein to cope with focal dystonia. His varied experiences as an oboist, performing with distinguished groups such as the South Carolina Philharmonic and the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America, highlight his versatility and artistry.

As we celebrate Pedro's doctoral accomplishment, we also acknowledge his leadership and mentorship within Project Music. His enthusiasm for music and his steadfast commitment to nurturing musical talent continue to motivate our community. We proudly recognize Pedro as he begins this new chapter as Doctor Falcón and anticipate the ongoing growth of our program under his distinguished leadership.

It is with immense joy that I achieve this title because it represents years of work, dedication, and discipline in music and pedagogy. With it, I hope to become a bridge of knowledge that allows me to contribute to each of my students, setting an example for society.
