The Power of Community Partnerships: A Musical Collaboration in Stamford
At the heart of Stamford’s thriving arts community, a remarkable collaboration recently unfolded, showcasing the transformative power of community partnerships. A 5’8” ebony Baldwin grand piano, once a cherished centerpiece in the home of Susan DiMattia, found a new purpose through the shared vision and generosity of local organizations.Susan DiMattia, former president of Stamford’s Friends of the Ferguson Library, a former PROJECT MUSIC Board member, and a longtime supporter of the organization, donated the well-loved instrument to PROJECT MUSIC.
The piano, gifted to her family by her father, held deep sentimental value, and Susan sought a meaningful way to ensure its continued legacy. Knowing the impact PROJECT MUSIC has on young musicians in the community, she entrusted the piano to them, believing it would inspire and benefit the next generation of music-makers.Through PROJECT MUSIC’s longstanding partnership with the Ballet School of Stamford, the piano now resides at their studio in the Stamford Town Center. Executive Director Marti Etter welcomed the instrument with open arms, ensuring it could serve dual purposes: enhancing ballet classes with live accompaniment and providing a performance space for PROJECT MUSIC students during non-class hours.
The collaboration didn’t stop there. Paul Haller Pianos stepped in to donate their expertise, moving the piano to its new home, tuning it, and fitting it with a new cover and lock.
